Principal's Welcome
Dear Walker Students and Families,
I am honored to return to Walker Intermediate as Principal for the 2024-2025 school year! This year marks my ninth year at Walker and my seventeenth year serving the Summit Hill School District 161 Community. Prior to joining the staff at Walker as assistant principal, I served as a social worker at Dr. Julian Rogus Elementary School for eight years. I look forward to continuing my commitment to the Walker students, staff, and families again this school year.
At Walker, we share a commitment to nurturing the whole child by creating an environment in which students can take risks, set, and achieve goals, and create positive relationships with one another and our staff. I am most proud of our dynamic team of teachers and support staff who are committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and welcoming learning environment for each of our students. We proudly partner with the parents and families of our students as we endeavor to make the two years our students spend as Walker Wildcats among the very best of their educational career. The years our students spend at Walker are important ones on their educational journey and we encourage our students to take advantage of the many opportunities they will have to become involved in our dynamic school community.
On behalf of the Walker Staff, I thank you for visiting our school webpage and I welcome you to our school community. It is my great pleasure to serve as your child’s principal and I am committed to their safety, academic growth, and social emotional well-being during their time at Walker Intermediate School. Please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance to you in any way.
Sincerely,
Maura K. Carroll, Principal

Dear Walker Students and Families,
Welcome Walker Wildcats! I am Marianne Hourihan, the assistant principal here at Hilda Walker. I have been part of Summit Hill School District since I graduated from Illinois State University in 2013. I started in this district as a paraprofessional at Indian Trail, then began teaching second grade the second half of the year. After one year at Trail, I became a sixth grade ELA teacher at Hilda Walker. I spent eight years teaching sixth grade ELA and completed my masters in 2020 in Educational Leadership & Administration. This will be my third year serving as the assistant principal at Walker. I am proud to work alongside an amazing staff here at Walker. Walker truly is my second home.
At Walker, we follow our expectations of being respectful, responsible, and safe. I believe that the partnership between home and school is essential for student success. There are many opportunities to get involved here at Walker with our clubs & athletics. I encourage each student to get involved with an activity and become a larger part of their school community.
The sky's the limit, Wildcats!
Sincerely,
Marianne Hourihan, Assistant Principal,
